This piece is in excellent condition with no chips or marks anywhere that I can see.
Its surprising translucency, which is characteristic of Limoges porcelain. Porcelain artisans use the same technique of hand sculpting fine, bisque porcelain (non-glazed) that was first demonstrated by French artist Paul de Bourgoing in 1828.
The glow of a candle shines through the raised and carved surface of the votive to contrast light against shadow, revealing its richly detailed design.
